Frequently Asked Questions

1. What if I decide to bring a different car from the one I listed at registration?

You can contact Rolland Rahr (imperial57@yahoo.com) or Tom Bierzychudek (black56@aol.com) at any time to change your car. Changes will also be taken when you arrive at check-in but may delay that process.
2. If I change my mind, can I change the events that I signed up for during my original registration?

Yes. ClubExpress does not allow the registrant to change their registration after it has been booked, but Rolland Rahr (imperial57@yahoo.com) or Tom Bierzychudek (black56@aol.com) can change any information on your registration prior to the event on your behalf. Those change requests must be submitted prior to the registration cutoff date of May 25th. If those changes affect the cost, you will either be refunded the difference via paper check or asked to pay any incremental cost via Club Express.
3. Can I make changes when I check-in to the hotel?

Maybe.  Changes after the registration cutoff of May 25th will be limited to those that do not affect our commitments to our vendors and are also subject to availability.
4. How will I know if there are last minute changes during the event?

We plan on notifying the attendees of any changes using several methods. They include signage in the hotel Hospitality Room, announcements during scheduled events, postings on our Day-of-the-Event webpage, and if urgent, via text messages directly to the affected attendees.  Please make sure your contact information in ClubExpress is correct!
5. Is there a dress code for the event?

The dress code for the Friday night Spirit of Chicago boat cruise on Lake Michigan is casual attire (khakis, nice jeans or shorts, button-up shirts and blouses). It can still get cool on the lake this time of year. The dress code for the Saturday night banquet is 'Dress to Impress - Fabulous to Formal'. All other events are summer casual.
6. What meals will be included in the event?

Lunch and dinners are included most days. Breakfast is always on your own. See each event on the registration page for more details.
7.  Will there be security for our cars at the hotel?

Yes. There will be a security guard watching the parking garage on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 11:00 pm until 7:00 am.
8. What if I experience car problems during the event?

We have secured both a towing company and nearby repair garage to aid in the event of a breakdown. Their contact information will be included in the event program.
9. Will I have easy access to stores and restaurants while at the hotel?

Yes. There is a Target store, shopping mall, and many restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar on the premises. There are also dozens of fast and fine food restaurants within a 5-minute drive from the hotel.  A list of nearby restaurants can be found in the Hospitality Room or at the hotel front desk.
10. Is Chicago a welcoming city for LGBTQ+ people?

Absolutely. Illinois, and especially Chicago are very LGBTQ+ friendly and has a vibrant LQBTQ+ community. Everyone is welcome in Illinois.
11.  What time will the Gay Pride parade start & end on Sunday and will I have time to explore the area?

The buses will leave the hotel at 9:00 am and drop you off for the parade around 10:00 am.  The parade kicks off at 11:00 am and will end around 2:00 pm.  The buses will pickup everyone at 5:00 pm to return to the hotel.   That leaves you approximately 3 hours to explore Boystown on your own.  If you choose to stay longer, we will be providing information on travel options so that you can return to the hotel on your own.

12. What kind of weather should I expect for the event?

Typical weather in Chicago in late June is temperatures around 70 degrees overnight and 80 degrees during the day. We get an average of 9 days of rain during June. Let's all hope it's not the last 9 days but be prepared!

13. Is Chicago a safe city?

Yes. Reports of rampant crime in Chicago have been greatly exaggerated by the media and our host hotel is in the sleepy suburb of Lombard which is located approximately 20 miles outside of Chicago. There are 2 events taking place within the city of Chicago and attendees will be taken to those venues directly via private motorcoach.
14.  What precautions are being taken against COVID?

We ask that anyone who is not feeling well before heading to the event, regardless of ailment, stay home.   If you start to not feel well after arriving, we ask that either you wear a mask in public, stay in your room, or leave the event.  If someone is observed or reported to be noticeably sick, they will be asked to do the same.
