From the Driver's Seat - October 2019

This club is so alive with the collector car hobby spirit!

In this issue of Driveshaft you’ll see that our regional events are extremely popular with members. The two regionals featured in this article have been around for many years and are greatly anticipated by all who attend. These events are “mini Grands,” smaller, abbreviated versions of our annual Grand Invitational (GI) that are held in different locations. In fact, regionals have often turned into Grands; their format and listing of tours and events usually adaptable for larger crowds and bigger car attendance.

Usually affordable and within reasonable driving distance for many, they are sometimes an easier event in which to attend, both for time away from work and on the wallet. Although we are entering winter months, there are still regionals scheduled in weather-permitting states. Consider attending one soon or next year. This photo was taken at There’s Something about Saugatuck in September.

As Michael Cull writes in his account about Beach Ball, it’s also about the spirit of our hobby that makes these events great. Volunteers who help coordinate and plan the event, then staff it to make it all happen.

And there are always members willing to help others out when an old car or truck breaks down or a member needs a ride to get a battery or more at a local auto parts store.

And when it comes to auto parts retailers, please remember that Advance Auto Parts has been a national sponsor of our Grand Invitational for the past several years, most recently in Cumberland, MD. Advance sends reps to attend our GIs to meet us and know more about our club and its members. It plans to participate in the Detroit GI next year. They are clear in their mission to be supportive of the LGBTQ community and strive for inclusiveness and tolerance in their workplace and the world, as well. They have my patronage and I hope you will consider Advance Auto Parts when you’re in need of any car part and supply. Many thanks to them for their support of LCCI!

So fall is here; get ready for regional and national election of leadership. Your national ballot, both electronically and in paper form (for those who wish it) is coming soon. Your region should be gearing up for elections as well; make sure you know who your candidates are on the ballot. If interested in volunteering for any regional leadership position, make sure to inform your current leaders. It can be a lot of fun and can offer new opportunity for fresh ideas for things to do.

These regions are your regions and as members you have a say in what you want to do. Plan your year as a team and be sure to step up to coordinate an event. It’s easy and can be very rewarding.
